Portrays doctors and nurses from Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and other allied countries saving lives and limbs in a war zone military hospital modeled on a real facility in Afghanistan.
Rob Gray the Production Designer built a superb back lot but there are limits to creating an airbase of 15,000 people and the world’s busiest runway in suburban Toronto. A key aspect of the show is to give the impression of being in Kandahar. We created all relevant operational aircraft and built an entirely CG version of the base from reference footage. These are used in combination with the matte paintings, stock footage and specifically shot elements from Morocco. Whenever the show goes outside there are VFX, be it CG people, helicopters, Humvee’s or aircraft.
