As Tippett Studio celebrates its 30th year in existence, we go behind the scenes at the famous studio and find out how they are using NUKE, MODO, MARI and KATANA to bring their productions to life.
You’ll discover how MODO was instrumental in bringing the amazing new 13-part TV series, COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey. The show explores the remarkable mysteries of the cosmos and our place within it.
Look closely at the video and you might even catch a glimpse of the legendary, multi-award winning Phil Tippett at work in his creature shop.

My vulcano simuation for the very popular TV show COSMOS: A Spacetime Odyssey with Neil DeGrasse Tyson (nominated for an EMMY).
The most challenging part was the fact that the simulation is roughly 1500 frames long (!) and had to move very slowly while maintaining detail. Not the easiest of tasks! The final sims was retimed in FumeFX by 200% which caused a few flicker headaches. It is not really designed to retime that much. The fume grid was pretty massive in size as well and used around 12-16gb of ram.Hope you like it 🙂
